Excerpts:
A couple of days later saw us walking down to Station 2 where D'mall was and I was trying my best not to freak out as the beach was filled with algae, which were collecting on my Adidas all-terrain.
However, I forgot that the hub was in Dubai and majority of the OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) were stationed there. The duty-free shop was overrun with Filipino workers selling cell phones and perfume. Meanwhile, I wanted to slash my wrist at the thought of being trapped in a plane with all of them.
On my way back, I had to bravely take the economy flight once more. This time I already resigned myself to being trapped like a sardine in a sardine can with all these OFWs smelling AXE and Charlie cologne while my Jo Malone evaporated into thin air.
Now, is this just plain humor? Don't ask me. I don't find this article equally funny. I can certainly take every form of Philippine indignation from other countries, save for words coming out of my fellow kababayans. Besides, there's a big difference between humor or wittiness from sarcasm and insult.
Perhaps she just belongs to a highly different league. I never once owned any Adidas shoes and I don't know what kind of effect algae can have on them. I've never taken economy-class flight to know that Axe could actually smell stronger than Jo Malone.
Or perhaps I'm just oversensitive. I have just finished my crying spree and these are simply remnants of momentary depression and resentment. Yet it doesn't erase the fact that her antics hurt a lot of people, including mine. However I look at it her statements are simply belittling OFWs who work so hard to feed their families because there aren't enough jobs (and good-paying ones) in the country. These are the same people who can't afford the kind of luxury Ms. Fernandez has, such as picking a country and packing her bags--and makeup--anytime she wants to.
If majority of the Filipinos think the way Ms. Fernandez does, then what's left of this country?
And mind you, her apology doesn't help either. But for the sake of being humane, I'll just consider this as another lack of better judgment.

Oh, well. I hope the OFW community is happy.
