My Name Is Hope

Hope is a thing with feathers, that perches in the soul.

Random 1: Choices

Choices will always remind me of opportunity costs, something I've learned way back in college. (Indeed, I wasn't really a college brat that I thought I was; otherwise, this already escaped my memory.) The term simply means that every alternative has its own corresponding costs. Of course, when choice A costs a lot higher than choice B, it only means that you're going to lose more if you select choice B. Basically, that's what it's supposed to mean--for me, anyway.

Well, the bottom line is you can't help it but to sacrifice some things just to go for the better one. For example, a friend just decided to postpone his travel abroad because there's a much bigger opportunity waiting for him as of the moment. It's also the same thing perhaps for another friend who seems to have seen almost the entirety of the world, and yet she still feels desperate and lost. Maybe she misses her family so much or that she longs for a place that she can truly call home.

As for me, I'm definitely thankful that I am given too many choices. Sometimes they don't come to me but rather I look for them. The problem is I'm not that good at making the better one. So I'm taking everything one day at a time, settling for what I think should be my priority at present.

Random 2: Valentines

Two more days to go and it's Valentine's Day, and as what I've been practicing for a year or two, I'm not going to celebrate it. Or perhaps you won't see me in restaurants, cinemas, or even parks. I don't know. I'm still bitten by the love bug, but I'm really not the type of person who goes with the "uso." The only time that I'm one with the world is during the holidays (Christmas until New Year). I could safely say that Valentine's Day is not my favorite time of the year. I don't look forward to or even accept roses and chocolates (okay, the latter will do). What I'm hoping to receive (ehem) is an honest-too-goodness letter. The Boyfriend isn't really too keen in writing love notes, and so every little scribble he gives me is oh-so-memorable.

Random 3: Corruption

Seriously, if I'm going to start talking about it, I may as well create a new blog. I still belong to the idealistic group. I will always believe that every one of us has the ability to change the system that has gone rotten right now. Else, we might as well not hope for the best or even something good for our children. And it doesn't really matter if you're living in another country. In fact, there are a lot of Filipinos here in the Philippines that sound, look, and act more foreign than those who are currently working in the Middle East, Europe, and America.

PS: This is going to be a very interesting year indeed. I can't wait to know what's going to happen in the next months to come. :-)

Yes, We Can
[info]lifeoflemski
It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality.

Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.

Yes we can heal this nation.

Yes we can repair this world.

Yes we can.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics...they will only grow louder and more dissonant ........... We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea --

Yes. We. Can.

Musings at 2:3 a.m.
[info]lifeoflemski
It's 2:30 in the morning, and I'm still up, though my eyes are starting to droop. This is the time when I can't do anything more serious other than perusing other people's blog posts or reading about the lives of high-profile celebrities. I'm basically done with Friendster and Multiply, having checked them countless times today. I just busied myself signing up in a number of pay-per-blogs. If you're bored but itching to write, might as well earn a few dollars ;)

I'm quite surprised today to know that there are actually PEOPLE who care about what I write. I think it's more than just trying to feed my ego. Rather, it's more of knowing that there are individuals who place value on your voice, no matter how small it could be. I may never be as politically driven,  witty, and even funny as others (I know lots of them who have these), but I have my own voice. I guess that's what matters, right?

Oh, did you see JDV yesterday? He was fuming mad! But my mom was right. His face hardly changed. I just pity his wife. She's one of the most gracious women I've ever seen. But then again, I'm getting real tired of Philippine politics. It seems like 90 percent of the time has been spent on bickering. I know it sounds so evil of me, but I'm more excited knowing who is getting the most delegates between Obama and Clinton. It's also one of the reasons why I'm still so up today.

PS: I am stalled trying to create descriptions for my blog. Perhaps for My Name Is Hope, I'm going for "Get to know the insights of a 20-something girl on life, love, business, entertainment, politics, travel, and the world." (drama)
